The Midwest Association of Translators and Interpreters (MATI) welcomes proposals for presentations at our 23rd Annual Conference, The Power of Presence: Why Human Interpreters and Translators Still Matter, to be held on Saturday, November 14, 2026 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
All proposals are due by Friday, August 7 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
We are looking for presentations, including keynote speakers, panel discussions and skill building workshops, from all areas of translation and interpreting, such as finance, law, government, medicine, literature, science and technology, education and training, community, terminology, independent contracting, and business management. Presentations should provide timely, innovative content, and encourage lively discussion.
Presentations should be approximately one hour in length. Each presenter will receive an honorarium of $200; MATI may also be able to offer a stipend to defray travel expenses. The registration fee for presenters will be waived, but all presenters must register for the conference.
Proposals should consist of an abstract (summary of presentation content) of up to 300 words and a speaker bio of up to 100 words.
You do not need to be a MATI member to submit a proposal. If you know someone who would be a great presenter this November, please encourage them to submit a proposal before the August 7 deadline!
Criteria for selection of proposals:
- Respond to the diverse needs and interests of translators and interpreters
- Demonstrate originality and value to the intended audience
- Preference given to interactive participation and focus on applicable practice in translation and/or interpreting.
