En esta sesión abordaremos uno de los temas más polémicos del momento del que se habla mucho pero se comprende poco. El lenguaje inclusivo es una propuesta política que tiene impacto en la gramática pues se sirve de ella para visibilizar a personas y colectivos que habían sido relegados de diversos ámbitos, incluido el del lenguaje. Por ello es fundamental comprender el origen de la propuesta y su contexto, así como la revisión de las herramientas gramaticales de las cuales se echa mano para su elaboración. Sin embargo, para saber mejor qué es la inclusión en el lenguaje, también será necesario saber que no es el lenguaje inclusivo para evitar falacias y la incomprensión que rodea a este tema.
During this session, we will discuss one of the most polemic current topics, a topic that has been talked about extensively and is yet misunderstood by many. Inclusive language is a political initiative with an impact on grammar. This grassroots effort uses grammar to make people and communities visible. These individuals and groups have been excluded in several arenas, including language. There lies the importance of understanding the origin of this effort, the context and the review of grammatical tools used to create it. To better understand inclusion in language, it will also be key to learn what isn’t Inclusive Language, in order to avoid fallacies and misunderstandings surrounding this topic.

Presenter Bio:
Yadira Hidalgo Gonzalez
Estudió Comunicación en la Universidad Veracruzana e hizo un Máster en Periodismo en la Universidad de Barcelona con aval de la Columbia University of New York. Cuenta con un diplomado en Género y Periodismo por el Instituto Internacional de Periodismo José Martí de la Habana Cuba y fue becaria de la Fundación Nuevo Periodismo en Colombia. Se ha dedicado a la radio desde 1988 en México, Estados Unidos y España. Es especialista en Derechos Humanos y Género en medios de comunicación y Políticas Públicas y ha brindado más de 150 cursos, conferencias y talleres. Fue jefa de prensa del Instituto Veracruzano de las Mujeres del 2009 al 2011 y directora del Instituto de las mujeres de Xalapa, la capital del estado de Veracruz México, de 2014 al 2021.
In the late 80’s, a very young Yadira began her career in radio in Mexico and later went on to do work in radio in the United States and Spain. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of Veracruz, a Master’s degree in Journalism from the University of Barcelona and Columbia University of New York. She has also studied journalism with a focus on gender at the Jose Marti International Journalism Institute in Cuba. The Nuevo Periodismo Foundation in Colombia awarded Yadira a grant.
From 2014 to 2021, Yadira was the director of the Women’s Institute of Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico. Before that, she managed communications for the Women’s Institute of the State of Veracruz in Mexico. Yadira has offered over 150 trainings on topics of gender, language and journalism.
