"Anatomy" of a Business Transaction

Presented by Hadassah Weiner, Ph.D.

This session will examine the elements of a simple acquisition transaction (purchase and sale of a business) from the time discussions begin through closing. Emphasis will be on key transaction documents and clauses as well as recurring words and phrases. The goals are to improve your understanding of the context in which you may be translating and to provide a springboard to more complex transactions. This session is also appropriate for financial translators who encounter transactional documents and terminology in their work.

Bio

Hadassah Weiner earned her A.B. in Spanish from Douglass College and her Ph.D. in Spanish literature from Indiana University. She returned to Douglass to teach before entering University of Pennsylvania Law School. After graduation, she practiced at a Manhattan firm until joining KPMG's Office of General Counsel. She retired as Deputy General Counsel in 2008.

Dassie taught legal writing at Cardozo Law School as well as proposal, engagement letter, and report writing at KPMG. Now, a freelance translator, she is an online Spanish-Englih legal translation and French-English financial translation tutor for University of Chicago's Graham School. Her other languages are Italian and Hebrew.

Each webinar in this series will be 45-55 minutes long, followed by 5-15 minutes of Q&A. Webinars are $20 for MATI Members and $30 for Non-members.

Each Webinar is approved for 1 CEU through the ATA, and certain other organizations. Certificates will be awarded upon completion.

Webinars shall be facilitated using GoToWebinar. Computer and internet access are required. Details on accessing the webinar will be emailed to registrants a few days before the webinar takes place.
